 | BOOK | Concise Catalogue of Modern Chinese Copper Coins, 2nd ed. by Zhou Qinyuan & Li Pingwen (ZL). This Western-friendly Chinese coppers catalog features excellent, slightly-enlarged photos and Woodward references for many varieties. The level of varieties distinguished is well beyond KM/SCWC but not quite as fine as Woodward, Duan, and various other Chinese works. Numerous enlarged detail panels help distinguish varieties, important given lack of clear descriptions and decent photos in the KM/SCWC. Unique numbering system, Renminbi valuations in five grades, Chinese text. Western auctions often references this work ("CL") and in working up a huge stock I found it, along with Woodward, to be the most practical reference for Western collectors. The larger-format 2018 2nd edition adds a few types with "a" numbers, many more detail insets, and completely revised pricing. A quick takeaway on the pricing changes since 2012 is the greater separation between grades (particularly in the EF-MS60 range), reflecting the maturing of the market. Hardcover, higher list price, and new difficulties importing Chinese books to the US contribute to the higher cost. 294p, 7.5x10", hc, 2018 Costs about $35 to mail outside USA | New | S |
 | BOOK | Illustrated Catalogue of Chinese Gold & Silver Coins, 7th Ed., by Lin Gwo Ming & Ma Tak Wo, Latest edition of the most widely used far eastern pricing guide. Includes many unusual items such as patterns, official Ch'ing and Republic portrait medals, Central Mint bars, etc. not in Krause publications. Slick paper, b&w photo-illustrated. Fully bilingual, English/Chinese. Five-grade pricing in US$. Prices reflect 2011 Chinese market. 388p, sc, 6x8.25", 2012; SAMPLE PAGE 2012 7th Edition: OUT OF STOCK Costs about $35 to mail outside USA | New | S |
 | BOOK | Daniel K.E. Ching Sale 6/2/91, by Scott Semans and Bruce Smith (DC) offered cast and struck coins, banknotes, charms, exonumia, Japan, and other Asia in a quality format auction of 1375 lots, about 40% illustrated. Informative mini-articles by Bruce Smith, census figures for modern coins. SAMPLE PAGE About $22 mailing cost outside USA | New $45.00 | S |
 | BOOK | Zhong guo xi zang qian bi tu lu (Illustrated Catalog of the Money of China's Tibet), by Yin Zheng Min (YZM) is a comprehensive variety/date catalog of Tibet & Malla coins and paper, all illustrated with color photos. Generally a finer breakdown than KM, with 91 examples of Gaden Tanka (Y13), for example. Chinese, but very little text and some photos use arrows or drawings to highlight differences. Best single Tibet catalog to date. Not well bound, so expect pages to come loose with serious use. 261p, 5.5x8.25", sc, 2004   SAMPLE PAGE About $22 mailing cost outside USA | New, signed: $60; Slightly used: $50.00 | S |

The copper includes 21 warlord and 209 Communist varieties. The rubbings are quite good and the color plates include major rarities. Essays on Sycee, Xinjiang red cash, Patterns & their fakes, Introduction of struck copper. Chinese text.
